WHAT DOES THE READ FAMILY FOUNDATION FUND?
The Read Family Foundation gives grants to 501(c)3 organizations that provide resources for children in Arizona. We’re interested in projects involved in the following areas:
- Arts
- Assistance for children without resources
- Assistance for children with special needs
- Culture
- Childhood Development
- Education
- Recreation Programs
- Self-Esteem Building
WHAT KIND OF ORGANIZATIONS DOES THE FOUNDATION FUND?
The foundation makes grants to actively operating section 501(c)(3) organizations in Arizona that provide resources for school-aged children.

DOES THE FOUNDATION HAVE A REGIONAL FOCUS?
The foundation focuses on programs that benefit the residents of Arizona. The foundation does not make international grants.
WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS LIKE?
After completing your online application, a “meet and greet” will be held with the directors of the Read Family Foundation to better understand you and the unique needs of your organization. After this meeting, we will request that you collect any financial documents needed for the grant process. Finally, after a financial review, we will hold a walk-through of your organization with the board of directors and industry professionals.
WHAT IS THE TYPICAL SIZE OF GRANTS?
The foundation grants up to $300000 every year to smaller sized charities. Our grants range from $5000 to $100000 per non-profit. Please contact us directly for more information.
HOW OFTEN CAN I APPLY FOR A GRANT?
We ask that applicants submit no more than one request per year. This time limitation helps both applicants and us to prepare and review proposals with greater thoughtfulness.
Applicants whose project the Read Family Foundation declines to fund may submit another request for the following year. The Foundation asks that any organization with an active grant refrain from reapplying until 12 months after the date of the active grant’s expiry.
DOES THE FOUNDATION HAVE APPLICATION DEADLINES?
The Read Family Foundation imposes no deadlines on initial proposals, and it accepts and reviews grant proposals throughout the year.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR A GRANT?
We ask that you complete an online application briefly describing your foundation and grant request, in addition to a two-page grant proposal, which is a summary of your request for funding. The application can be found here.
Following receipt of your application, the directors will review your application and will notify you if your organization is chosen for a grant. Then, we ask you meet and interview with at least two of our directors. At this time, we ask that your organization provide us with the IRS-mandated financial information necessary to complete the grant process. Once this information have been received and handled, the process is complete.
HOW DOES THE ONLINE APPLICATION FORM WORK?
We ask that you include the name of your application, the amount of money requested for your grant, the point of contact at your organization for the grant application and your two-page grant proposal. That form can be found here.
WHAT IF I CAN’T COMPLETE MY GRANT APPLICATION IN ONE SITTING?
Please click on the “Save and Continue” button while the application is still open. You will receive an email with means to continue your application at a later time. Please note that your incomplete application will only be saved in our system for 30 days.
MAY APPLICANTS SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IN HARD COPY?
We require all applicants to submit their grant requests online, this eases the application process for us. If your application is accepted, we will request that you submit any financial documents in hard copy.
